China Canlon, World Level
Recently, Canlon Waterproofing Systems provided on-site technical guidance for the roof repair project of the Johar high-end commercial complex in Lahore, Pakistan, once again demonstrating the international strength of Canlon Waterproofing Systems.
Located in a high-end business and residential area of Lahore, the project boasts convenient transportation, a large building scale, and diverse business formats, including retail, catering, entertainment, and supporting services, thus requiring high reliability of the roof waterproofing. The roof utilizes a single-ply polymer waterproof membrane system. However, after the mall opened, the Pakistani maintenance and construction teams lacked a standardized management system: there were no dedicated protective walkways on the roof, repairs lacked standardized procedures, and repeated damage to the membrane during long-term inspections, cleaning, and equipment maintenance resulted in numerous tears, holes, and leaks due to sealant failure.

Photos of the damage at the scene
Therefore, the technical team of Canlon promptly entered the site to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the project, rectify it in accordance with domestic standards, and establish a full-process practical training system to systematically improve the standardized operation capabilities of the local construction team for roof repair.
Overview of on-site issues
I. Problems include inadequate protection of finished products, non-standard construction techniques, and severe damage to the roof.
The shopping mall roof is a high-traffic area with frequent personnel for routine equipment inspections, roof cleaning, and small material handling. However, the Pakistani side failed to implement mandatory requirements for finished product protection on-site, and no dedicated protective walkways were laid on the roof. Personnel, tools, and building materials directly rubbed and crushed the polymer waterproof membrane. Coupled with Lahore's year-round strong ultraviolet radiation and summer torrential rains, the damage to the membrane spread rapidly, resulting in large areas of scratches, tears, holes, and damage to the roof. The waterproof protective layer failed, creating multiple potential leaks and significantly shortening the designed lifespan of the roof waterproofing.
II. Problems such as rudimentary roof repair procedures, poor appearance, and insufficient waterproofing reliability.
Regarding the damaged areas on the mall's roof, the Pakistani authorities' original repair procedures lacked standardized processes: the cleaning of surface dust and aging roofing membrane was incomplete, the overlap width of the membrane was insufficient, sealant was applied haphazardly, corners were poorly finished, the repaired areas were uneven, and gaps were not properly sealed. In Lahore's rainy and hot summer conditions, secondary water seepage is highly likely, repeated repairs increase the mall's maintenance costs, and water leakage can disrupt the normal operation of shops on lower floors.
Standardized training approach
In light of the weak professional foundation and insufficient understanding of the key points of polymer roofing membrane construction among the Pakistani construction personnel, the Canlon technical team developed a tiered and progressive training program, following a teaching logic that progresses from basic to complex, from simple procedures to complex repairs, and from indoor simulated training to real-world practice on shopping mall rooftops.
1. Basic theoretical teaching: Explanation of the material properties of polymer roll materials, key points of waterproofing and protection in Lahore's local climate, and mandatory standards for the protection of finished roofing products;
2. Indoor simulation practice: Build a small simulated roof template and practice the basic procedures of cleaning the base layer, pasting the roof roll, sealing and finishing the edges, and repairing damaged foundations.
3. Real-world demonstration of rooftop testing at the Lahore DHA large commercial complex: A roof damage test area was designated, and Chinese technicians were present throughout the process to provide real-time error correction and demonstrate standard operating procedures.

Through this technical training, Canlon continued to implement the model-led approach and on-site guidance, forming a standard for the maintenance of polymer roofs for shopping malls that is suitable for Lahore's high temperature, strong sunlight, and rainy inland climate. This completely eliminated the hidden dangers of roof leakage, reduced the long-term operation and maintenance costs of shopping malls, and provided a replicable standardized construction template for the roof operation and maintenance projects of other chain shopping centers under the group.

The effect after the rectification is completely new.
