Honor Canlon | Masterpiece! Suzhou Bay Cultural Center project included in the 2025 "High-quality Engineering Waterproofing Materials and Technologies" white paper

On October 14-15, the 2025 Waterproofing and Anti-corrosion Technology Exchange Conference, guided by the China Construction Industry Association and hosted by the China Construction Industry Association's Building Waterproofing Branch, was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. At the conference, the projects included in the 2025 white paper "High-quality Engineering Waterproofing Materials and Technologies" were announced, and the "Suzhou Bay Cultural Center (Suzhou Grand Theater, Wujiang Expo Center) Project , " in which Canlon participated in the construction, was honored to be selected.

The Suzhou Bay Cultural Center project covers approximately 160 mu (approximately 1.6 acres) and has a total construction area of approximately 215,000 square meters. With a total investment of approximately 3.09 billion yuan, the Grand Theater, located to the north, includes a 1,600-seat opera house and a 600-seat drama hall. At twice the size of the Sydney Opera House, it is the third largest theater in China. The Suzhou Bay Cultural Center is also the first urban cultural complex in China to integrate a grand theater, cinema, museum, and exhibition venues.

The entire project was designed by a consortium of French firm Atelier Bozambac and Zhongheng Design Group Co., Ltd. Bozambac, France's first Pritzker Prize laureate, created a design of wings connected by "∞"-shaped ribbons, reflecting the alternation of yin and yang in traditional Chinese philosophy. The symbolic meaning of "flow" aligns with the curved roofs of Suzhou's classical architecture and the theme of music, creating a striking and aesthetically pleasing design.

Canlon has been providing waterproofing materials and services for Suzhou Bay Cultural Center since 2016. The project uses Canlon MBP polymer self-adhesive waterproofing membrane. Through the pre-laid reverse-adhesive process and supplemented with supporting auxiliary materials, it can effectively eliminate the water seepage layer. Canlon also sent a technical team to follow up on the site in real time and provide construction guidance services for detailed nodes, providing excellent waterproofing protection for this new city business card located in East Taihu Lake.

It is reported that the Building Waterproofing Branch of the China Construction Industry Association and the "Construction Technology (Chinese and English)" magazine have published the "High-quality Engineering Waterproofing Materials and Technologies" white paper for eight consecutive years, and have included a total of 245 projects. It has not only become a carrier for recording the progress of waterproofing technology and a large database for compiling results, but also played a role in encouraging advancement and guiding development. Canlon has always provided precious examples for the white paper with high-quality waterproofing projects, promoting continuous innovation in engineering waterproofing technology and high-quality development of the waterproofing industry.
