On January 16, the No. 1 nuclear island of the Jiangsu Xuwei Nuclear Power Plant in Lianyungang began concrete pouring, marking the start of the main construction phase and initiating my country's transformation of nuclear energy from primarily power generation to diversified supply. The project utilized multiple waterproofing materials from Canlon to construct a robust and reliable waterproofing system.
As the first nuclear power unit to commence construction in China at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the Xuwei project primarily focuses on industrial heating while also generating electricity, with a total investment exceeding 72 billion yuan. The project innovatively combines third-generation and fourth-generation nuclear power technologies, producing high-quality industrial steam through a "dual-reactor coupling" mode. It is the world's first integrated utilization project of the Hualong One pressurized water reactor and a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, and also the world's first commercially promoted high-temperature gas-cooled reactor project.
For nuclear power projects, Canlon Waterproofing does not recommend the traditional wet-applied method; asphalt-based waterproof membranes, such as SBS, involve hot-melt construction, which carries certain safety risks; furthermore, the components of cold-applied primers are all flammable substances. Considering the special nature of nuclear energy, any potential safety hazards must be resolutely eliminated during the construction of nuclear power plants. All of these factors determine that polymer membranes are a more suitable approach for nuclear power waterproofing.
Canlon is a pioneering building materials manufacturer in China that applies waterproofing products to nuclear power projects. It has contributed to numerous high-quality projects, including the Rongcheng Nuclear Power Plant in Shandong, the Sanmen and Qimen Nuclear Power Plants in Zhejiang, and the Xiapu, Fuqing, and Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plants in Fujian. The Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant unit project, in particular, won the National Excellent Project Award (Gold Award). The company's flagship product, MBP-P polymer self-adhesive waterproof membrane, has passed the supplier certification of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and has also obtained "Jiangsu Excellent Product" and "Suzhou Manufacturing" certifications. The selection of Canlon's TPR waterproof membrane and rubber-plastic blend self-adhesive waterproof membrane system for Unit 1 of the Jiangsu Xuwei Nuclear Power Plant further demonstrates Canlon's leading position in the nuclear power waterproofing field.
The "Hualong One" is a megawatt-class third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology with completely independent intellectual property rights in China ; the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor is one of the representative reactor types of fourth-generation nuclear energy technology; promoting high-quality energy development in China is an important way to achieve the "dual carbon" goals. Canlon, adhering to the strategic goal of "empowering a low-carbon future and serving green buildings," will consistently provide stronger support for China's nuclear power construction!
